ZENO
THE STOIC
Man
A MAN IN AND OF THE WORLD
Stoics were encouraged to engage in business and politics. The wise man did not live in isolation, he actively participated in society. The Stoic was a man of action, driven by a sense of duty. His knowledge of good and evil made him the ideal administrator and magistrate. Wealth was considered neither good nor evil. Zeno himself continued to lend money at interest. Likewise, fame had a neutral effect on the soul of a Stoic. It was the attitude towards these that could corrupt.
